Often it is the trivial objects that might seem to be minor characters in a scene – ladders, towels, tiles or pool noodles – that have the power to evoke memories because of their tactile appeal, their peculiar but recognisable shape and their Proustian character. A glance or a touch can take you somewhere else. For COLLECTIBLE Brussels 2025, we focused on the towel, inspired by our ongoing fascination with the swimming pool motif. We created stools that at first glance appear to be neatly stacked bath towels resting on shelves, illuminated by ceramic wall lights in the same theme. Only when you touch them do they reveal their true materiality. And when lifted off the shelf, they transform a second time into sculptural seating objects.
We would like to thank Valchromat, whose generous support made it possible for us to produce deceptively real swimming aids and our display from their panels! (in white pearl and blue)
We would also like to thank AGROB BUCHTAL for their huge support with their beautiful pool edging tiles, which we have turned into pillars for our display!
